The OT301 has been squatted (1999) and bought (2006) by a diverse, international community that is united in an association called EHBK. We run this alternative, not-for-profit platform as a collective, in which housing, workspaces and public functions are combined to contribute to the arts, politics and subculture.

What happens when anthropology moves beyond the written page and into images, sounds and encounters?

Visual Encounters returns for its 4th edition, presenting 16 ethnographic films created by filmmakers from the University of Amsterdam’s MA in Visual Anthropology.

Across two days, the festival moves through different worlds, relationships and ways of seeing. The films explore memory, identity, migration, family, belonging, intimacy, place, and social change through approaches ranging from observational documentary to collaborative and experimental filmmaking.

At the heart of Visual Encounters is the idea that filmmaking can be more than a way of documenting people and places. It can become an encounter: between filmmaker and participant, image and experience, audience and world.

Screenings will take place in thematic blocks, followed by Q&As with the filmmakers—opening conversations about not only what these films show, but also how they were made and what kinds of relationships made them possible.
