Almost everyone cries once in their lives. Each person does it in their own way and for different reasons. Tears can be empowering, and they can also be used to exploit power.

“Cry Me a River” was written by Arthur Hamilton around 1953, originally for Ella Fitzgerald, but ended up being for Julie London. Later, in 2002, Justin Timberlake wrote a song with the same title about Britney Spears. Behind thousands of songs are stories that lead to tears, provoke them, or don't allow them at all. Why do we cry here and now? Who cries where? Is it really true that people socialized as female, cry more? And when do crying and laughing go hand in hand?

In the project “Collecting Tears,” I aim to gather stories and answers about the act of crying—whether it's silent or loud, wet or dry, tragic or amusing. Because, the feeling of our whole body turning to liquid when we break into tears is different for everyone. This collection aims not only to focus on the salty liquid but also to include other related material aspects in an installation format. So let’s collect our tears with words, sounds or objects together.
